I Know How To Handle Without Stress- Singer Jenny O

Jennefer Ifeoma Fab Obi is one of the hottest in Nigeria entertainment industry. Having worked with T V C, Radio Continental, Bisi Olatilo made her hot. The presenter cum singer is currently working with HIP TV. She recently released her new single with Musical Taliban, Oritsefemi. In this interview, she shares her experiences with men in the entertainment industry and challenges working as an artiste.

Please tell your fans about yourself?

My names are, Jennefer Ifeoma Fab Obi, otherwise known as Jenny O. I hail from Awomama in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, the only girl and second child in a family of five. I'm a fun loving person and also a go-getter. I'm a graduate and I'm also still studying.

When did you venture into music?

I started as a presenter, my music career. Though I wouldn't say I started broadcasting first because I was singing and at the same time doing my presenter's work. I will say I started music professionally
in 2007, and also released my first single, Yepirapira, the same year, then followed immediately with the video, then followed by other songs. I just released my latest single featuring the Music Taliban
himself, Oritsefemi.

When was the song with Oritsefemi released?

The song was released April 1st this year. It has been doing very well on air.
How has the response of your fans to the new song been so far?

Very good, in fact I did not expect the kind of love I’ve received from DJs and music fans out there since the song was released. DJs has been having it on replay and I am very appreciative of them for their
love and support.

What genre of music do you do?

I'm versatile singer, I do R & B, I do Hip-Hop, Regae, Afro, Highlife, name it. I love adventure; I like to try something new, break new grounds. But right now I will say I am more on the  afro pop.

Please permit me to ask personal questions what is your status?

I'm single.

Total single or double single?

Entertainment  industry is not opposite sex or gender friendly, how do you manage male fans?

No Industry is sex or gender friendly; it depends on who you are and what you want. If you’re focused on what you do and where you 're going, I don't think anything can distract you. I'm not saying I don't
have male friends or advances, but focus is my staying power. Mind you, I am the only girl in a family of five which means I have four brothers. So I know how to handle some issues without much stress. I
think it’s everywhere; it depends on your mind set and what you want. It’s not only about sex or men advances, life generally is not easy anywhere, no industry is like bread and butter. I always try to be
strong and focused.

The issue of sexual harassment is very obvious in the entertainment industry, have you ever had any of such experiences?

I have not , that does not mean guys has not been asking me out. We must recognise the difference between the two. There is difference between someone asking you out and someone wanting to have sex with you are different. Again, it depends on how you present yourself. If you present yourself as someone who wants to sleep your way through, then people will take you that way, but if you are focused and knows exactly what you’ re doing and where’ re going, I don't think anyone will want to
mess with you.

You are a broadcaster and at the same time a singer, how do you manage the two professions? It’s not easy . It’s very tasking, but when you have love and passion for something you tend to go all out in achieving it. You just have the energy and drive to go through it.

if for any reason you are asked to chose one between music and the job of a presenter, which would you go for?

If I should chose one! The fact that you can't even chose one and leave the other, they are both entertainment, they are both entertainment and I enjoy doing the two. They both evolve around each other.

There is a report that you are dating K 9, how true is the story?

Hmmmm, I'm not dating K9, but we’re close friends just as I have other close male friends. I have heard the story too but it’s not a problem to me. I'm more focused on what I'm doing now than allowing myself get distracted by some unfounded stories. But then you can't stop people from speculating. People must always find something to talk about. Maybe tomorrow if I feature another artiste on my song they will also say I'm dating the person. I'm never bothered by all that speculations. I'm sure K9 has his heart-throb somewhere.

In your latest single you had Oritsefemi on it, why Oritsefemi?

When I heard that beat, the first person that came to my mind was Oritsefemi, so I contacted him and here we are.

Oritsefemi is one of the trending artistes in Nigeria today and from experience I know he is a busy guy, how did you manage to track him down?

Oritsefemi and I are cool, we spoke and I told him and he said okay, then he came over and the rest is now a story. He gave his very best in the song.

Most big artistes charge huge amount to feature on songs, how much did Oritsefemi collect to feature in the song?

I hear that a lot, but I did not pay anything to have him on my song. Like I said earlier both of us are cool. I spoke to him about it and he was cool with the idea and we made it happen.

To young people out there who are presently struggling to find their
foot, what do you have to say to them?

I will simply say, don't be lazy, don't give up, believe in yourself and make it happen for you. No one else can do it for you if not you. Be strong and try break new grounds and the sky will be the beginning
of your destination.
