Putin Says Downing Of Jet A 'Stab In The Back,' Warns Turkey Of 'Significant Consequences'

Russian President Vlaidmir Putin on Tuesday called the downing of a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 plane by Turkish forces a "stab in the back" that may have "significant consequences."

Russia Ministry Of Defence tweeted
#SYRIA Analysis of the objective monitoring data definitely showed that there had not been any violation of the Turkish air space
Putin said Russia is still "analyzing everything," but that today's event "will have significant consequences, including for Russian-Turkish relations."

"We have always treated Turkey as a friendly state. I don’t know who was interested in what happened today, certainly not us," he said.

Putin went so far as to suggest that Turkey may have downed the plane to protect an illicit oil trade with ISIS, and that the incident was evidence of NATO aiding ISIS in Syria.

"Do they want to make NATO serve ISIS?" he said. "I understand that every state has its own regional interests and we’ve always respected that, but we will never allow the kind of crime that happened to today to take place. And of course we hope that the international community will find the strength to come together and fight against the common evil."
