Many people are agitating for the revival of Nigeria Airways, a national carrier that cease to exist in 2003 after fifty five years of operations from1958. By now the Airline was $60 million in debt. It was later succeeded by the British multinational company, Virgin. Virgin re-branded it to Virgin Nigeria and operation commenced in 2005, but after just 4 years (2009) operations had to cease due to poor safety records and other legal problems. But not after re-branding it to Nigerian Eagle Airlines, 51% of it's stake was also sold to Nigerian businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim.
By 2010 the acquisition was done. Jimoh Ibrahim then re-branded the airline to Air Nigeria. However in 2012 the airline was grounded by regulators for safety checks. That was the End of it!!
Some Nigerians has set up a facebook page promoting the revival of the airline. Nigeria newly elected president is not keen on reviving the airline. He stress that he would rather ensure he deliver good road and railway network to Nigerians than an airline.
