We Want Awolowo State, Ijebu Monarch Tells Buhari

The Ijebu people of Ogun State have been agitating for Ijebu state, the struggle started decades ago. Even the last Confab administered under the administration of former President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan  recommended a 54 state one of which is Ijebu State.

Ijebu monarch, Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo,
Akarigbo of Remo is urging Pres. Buhari to make the dream of the Ijebu people come to past according to his statement to a media house. He also wants the Ijebu state called Awolowo State, he wants it named after the former premier of Western Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo. According to him Ijebu is the only province that has not become a state out of all the provinces created during the colonial era.
Creating Awolowo state would put an end to the controversies that have been trailing the creation of Ijebu state since the agitation started decades ago.
Creating Awolowo state would mean immortalising the late premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the way Washington D.C. was created in memory of the late founding President of the United States of America, George Washington.
